A human Buddha
The Indian Museum in Kolkata, the oldest museum in Asia, offers a quiet respite from the traffic and noise outside. The Indian Buddhist Art exhibition at the Tokyo National Museum from March 17 to May 17 will show a number of artworks from the Buddhist art collection of the Indian Museum in Kolkata.
Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya, in the Indian state of Bihar, is said to be where Gautama Buddha was spiritually awakened. Buddhists from all over the world make pilgrimages to this sacred site.
Sarnath, a city located 13km north east of Varanasi in India's state of Uttar Pradesh, is known as the place where Gautama Buddha first taught the Dharma. Dhamekh Stupa, a cylindrical structure stands 43.6 meters high with a diameter of 28 meters. It is the biggest building in Sarnath. The holy site is a popular destination for Buddhist visitors.

"Birth of Siddhartha" is from Nalanda, India, and dates from around the 10th century. The way of sculpting goddesses in folk art before Buddhism was adopted in this example to depict the plump body and graceful posture of Maya, Buddha's mother.
